The Winner of STARTCUP Ticino 2017 Award is

 

Dicronis

Dicronis develops innovative pharmaceutical products for the early diagnosis of diseases with high and urgent medical needs. The first product, Lymphit, is a so-called activity tracker that controls the function of the lymphatic system in a simple, safe and economical way, even from home. In particular, Lymphit contributes to drastically reducing, in combination with a specific treatment, the development of lymphoedema, a serious side effect of certain cancer therapies, to which up to one million patients are at risk annually, in Europe alone.

EXead develops oral vaccines for the prevention of gastrointestinal infectious diseases, with the aim of addressing the currently unresolved medical needs with high patient accessibility.

 

BigOmics
BigOmics is a cloud platform for Big Data analysis in the field of next generation genomics. The objective of the system is to democratize the analysis of omics data to accelerate medical discoveries and diagnostic processes, thus treating diseases.

 

Project Modula
The Modula bio-marker, a small electronic device that collects information on health in human beings, enables to accurately diagnose vector-borne diseases such as, for example, ticks (Lyme morbum), thus facilitating hospital care processes.

 

Swissponic
Swissponic has developed a system for automated hydroponics cultivation, allowing to grow vegetables without pesticides at home, throughout the year. The innovative monitoring system is equipped with sensors and regulators to provide the ideal environment for plant growth. Swissponic also provides a cloud platform which allows to control and manage the cultivation remotely.

Micro-Sharing Project-Aqua

Project-Aqua è un  progetto  legato al concetto di Micro-Sharing, volto ad aiutare persone svantaggiate in tutto il mondo  attraverso la micro-condivisione di prodotti e servizi. Nella fase pilota del progetto, svolta in collaborazione con Migros Ticino, acquistando una bottiglia di “Gazusa Nostrana” con il marchio Project-Aqua si è potuto garantire – con il supporto sul campo di Helvetas Svizzera – la fornitura di acqua potabile per un intero villaggio di 330 persone nel Mali per un periodo di quattro anni.

Skypull è un sistema basato su un drone totalmente autonomo che genera corrente elettrica sfruttando i venti in quota, una soluzione efficace ed economica che presenta un passo avanti nell’ambito dell’energia eolica. Infatti, le attuali turbine eoliche a terra, ingombranti e costose, riescono a catturare solo una minima parte dell’energia del vento.

 

Liberty

Liberty è un sistema che consente alle persone disabili di muoversi  in maniera autonoma durante i tempi di permanenza a letto. Il sistema Liberty contribuisce non solo a risolvere varie tipologie di problemi legati alle limitazioni motorie di queste persone (circolazione sanguina, disturbi del sonno, dolori muscolari ecc.), ma anche di simulare i movimenti naturali del corpo, fornendo così l’opportunità di effettuare esercizi di fisioterapia.

 

SkyWhere

La luce naturale ha effetti importanti sulle produttività degli individui. Tuttavia, molte persone passano buona parte delle loro giornate lavorative all’interno di edifici. SkyWhere è un sistema di illuminazione sostenibile in grado di trasmettere la luce diurna esterna all'interno degli edifici, migliorando così il benessere delle persone e consentendo anche di risparmiare sui consumi energetici.

 

SmartCuff

Il braccialetto SmartCuff è un dispositivo non invasivo che misura diversi parametri vitali delle persone anziane come il livello di stress, dolore, idratazione, al fine di  determinare il loro stato di salute. SmartCuff è dispositivo che si porta al polso, come un braccialetto, e monitora la salute degli anziani con l’obiettivo è di garantire, da una parte, l’autonomia e l’indipendenza della persona  e, dall’altra, di contribuire alla riduzione dei costi di ospedalizzazioni, dei trattamenti per le malattie croniche ecc.

BEEHELPFUL

Bees are not only for honey. Pollination is a keystone process in natural terrestrial ecosystems. But currently, more and more bees are dying, drammaticlly impacting to food production and human livelihoods. Beekeepers all over the world face the problem with chemical tratmenst, without achieving a definitive solution to the problem.

Beehelpful invented a new type of hive, that improves life conditions of bees and their pollination capabiliteis, allowing to reduce chemical treatments in hives. Thanks to a growing sensitivity, Beehelpful will provide beekeepers around the world with a patented solution to ensure the future human livelihoods.

Ecker Technologies is a Swiss start-up company specialized in research and the development of new technologies in the fields of physiotherapy, neurological and osteoarticular rehabilitation. Ecker Technologies research created GONDOLA®, a device that provides a new approach to rehabilitation therapy for people with Parkinson’s disease.

The Ticino StartCup replaces since 2014 the "Award for the best business idea in Ticino" (or "BSI Prize") awarded from 2009 to 2013.

 

 

SwissLeg provides amputees with light, high-mobility, low-cost (on average 700 CHF) prostheses (tibial and femoral). Thanks to the innovative design and the use of inexpensive materials, yet robust, the prosthesis is assembled and applied on-site in just 3 hours, solving one of the major obstacles to the spread of the prostheses in countries at war or in the developing world.

Newscron allows the integration of information from different sources (newspapers, magazines and portals) in only one application can be downloaded from the AppleStore and GooglePlay. Newscron was awarded the De Vigier Foundation in 2013. Scheduled for autumn 2014, the launch of the "Freemium" application.

Designergy integrates photovoltaic solar panels in the construction materials of the roof, significantly reducing installation costs. After there were created and tested the first modules at the ISAAC of SUPSI in Lugano‐Trevano, in 2013 it was realized the first roof with the new components. Designergy won the award in Venturekick in 2012.

Bmob proposes a new monitoring system of parking using sensors in order to make known the availability in real time via cellphone or navigation system. The pilot project is running in a district of Lugano (USI area). The start-up is waiting for a decision of the City of Lugano on the possible extension of the system.

ViSSee proposes a visual sensor for measuring speed reproducing in hardware and software the principles with which the eyes and the brain of the fruit fly measure the speed. The technology has found many applications related to smartphones, tablets, etc.. ViSSee was awarded by the De Vigier Foundation in 2010. Currently, the firm is seeking funding for the development of the activity.
